On June 4, 2016, employees from Dynacast will join together in the fight against cancer at this year’s Relay for Life at Crestwood Secondary School in Peterborough, Ontario. The Relay for Life event is a 6-hour overnight community fundraising walk that brings together cancer survivors and supporters to honor those battling the disease and remember those who have passed. Teams camp out around the track and each member takes turns walking throughout the night. The Dynacast Dynamos team is led by co-captains Kathy Powell and Brenda O’Brien, who are the team’s biggest inspiration because each of them is a cancer survivor.
Relay for Life isn’t just a walk, it is a journey—much like cancer—and the Dynacast team is proud to support friends, family, and co-workers that have battled the fight against cancer. Team members are coming from different Dynacast locations across North America to walk together. “This is the largest team—35 team members—that Relay for Life has ever had for this Peterborough event. I am inspired by the number of Dynacast employees throughout North America that have either joined the team or donated. It is great to bring together individuals who wouldn’t necessarily get the chance to work together otherwise. It just exemplifies the type of people we have on board at Dynacast, I’m very proud,” said Hervé Mallet, Dynacast Executive Vice President of North America.
Relay for Life started in 1985 when Dr. Gordy Klatt walked and ran for 24 hours around a track ultimately raising $27,000 to help the American Cancer Society. This year, the Dynacast Dynamos team has a goal of raising $15,000, but with help from family and friends they have every intention of exceeding their goal.
