Dynacast Malaysia, together with Dynacast Singapore, had embarked into another challenge when Robert Bosch came to seek a solution for a heat sink part. Bosch Mexico, a regional branch of the Bosch Group, approached Dynacast Singapore after a few die-casters had failed on the project. This heat sink part comprises 24 pillars, each at 3cm tall. One of the toughest challenges is to ensure that all pillars were properly filled, without air being trapped at the end of each pillar. With a “Never Say It Can’t Be Done” attitude, the Dynacast Singapore team came up with a new tool proposal for Bosch after numerous R&D brainstorming sessions. We changed the tool layout from 2 cavities to 4 cavities, redesigned the gating system, and improved the vacuum channel and inserts for each of the cavities. Based on our experience and expertise, we advised Bosch of techniques to reduce their wear rate and improve their tool life. We also changed die cast machine components to help to achieve better yields. Dynacast Malaysia value added services went the extra mile to meet Bosch’s criteria on a set of limit samples to further understand their requirements.
