The machinability of A380 alloy is considered to be quite good. It is used for a wide variety of products including chassis for electronic equipment, engine brackets, gearbox cases, household furniture, power and hand tools.
It is unusual to heat treat pressure die castings because of the possibility of blistering, due to sub-surface porosity when heated to elevated temperatures. However, properties can be improved upon, by giving castings a T2 or T5 temper. Often, the properties of castings given a T5 temper will approach those of T6. Castings that are going to be treated in this manner must have excellent internal soundness.
